This year’s Be More Race will take place on 16 August 2025 in Lilongwe with a new route that promises a fresh experience for participants.
The race was originally scheduled for 19 July at Bingu National Stadium (BNS) but was postponed.
This year’s Be More Race will feature a 21km main competitive race, a 10km run, and a 5km family run.
The 21-kilometre race offers substantial cash prizes for the winners, with first prize set at K1,650,000, second prize K1.2 million, third prize K1 million, fourth prize K800,000, and fifth prize K600,000.
Last year’s Be More Race in Lilongwe saw outstanding performances from several athletes.
In the men’s category, professional runner Chikondi Mwanyali of Civo Athletics Club won the 21-kilometre race.
The 23-year-old completed the distance in 1 hour and 6 seconds, narrowly beating his closest competitor, Mphatso Nadolo, who finished in 1 hour and 8 seconds. Chancy Master took third place, while Grevazio Mpani finished fourth.
Mwanyali’s victory meant he successfully defended his title and upheld his championship at the Mzuzu City Half Marathon in March.
In the women’s category, Tereza Master emerged as the winner, finishing ahead of second-placed Nalicy Chirwa, in a thrilling close contest.
Standard Bank plc, the event’s sponsor, has announced a series of activities and innovations aimed at enhancing the race experience, creating business opportunities for SMEs and showcasing talent in Malawi’s athletics scene.
According to Standard Bank’s Head of Marketing, Tamanda Ng’ombe, the 2025 race carries the theme “Run in Blue” and will be hosted at the Gateway Mall, a stone’s throw from the initial venue, Bingu National Stadium.
Ng’ombe highlighted several upgrades this year, including modern race management technologies and amenities, along with a specially designed race jersey for an international race experience.
She said: “This year’s race features a custom race jersey with expertly crafted specifications to ensure comfort during and after the race. It is a race jersey that can be used beyond the event for other workouts and fitness activities.
“In addition, we have also introduced an e-tracking system for runners to ensure transparency and improve timely access to race results.
Ng’ombe added that participants and spectators can also look forward to a range of activities with SMEs given opportunities to display and sell their products, creating a platform for local businesses to thrive.
The Be More Race continues to grow in popularity, attracting both amateur and professional runners from across the country and aims to promote fitness, community engagement, and support for local businesses.
