Malawi is set to launch the Nzika Digital ID Wallet, a new innovation aimed at making identity verification easier and more convenient for citizens.
The National Registration Bureau (NRB) will officially launch the initiative at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe. Minister of Homeland Security, Honourable Peter Mukhito, will preside over the ceremony under the theme “My Digital ID, My Shadow, Never Apart.”
The Nzika Wallet will allow citizens to keep a verified digital copy of their identity on their mobile phones, enabling them to prove who they are without necessarily carrying their physical National ID card.
The initiative is expected to bring greater convenience to citizens, particularly those who frequently need to present identification when accessing different services. Having a verified ID on a phone could make identity verification quicker and easier.
The Government says the initiative will also reduce barriers to accessing digital services while easing the NRB’s operational burden by reducing the need for physical ID printing.
Alick Mandiwa Nkhatabay citizen,has described the initiative as way to go , he said the digital wallet could make everyday access to services much easier.
“This will save us the trouble of always carrying our physical IDs, and having our identity available on our phones will make things more convenient,” Mandiwa said.
