Organisation Supports Children’s Ward at Balaka Hospital

Chisa Children, Youth and Community Development Organisation (CCYCDO) has extended its support to children admitted at Balaka District Hospital by donating assorted items and conducting a hospital cleanup exercise aimed at promoting hygiene and good health.

The donation, included soap, soya pieces and other essential supplies which were distributed to patients in the children’s ward.

The gesture, according to the organisation, is part of its ongoing efforts to support vulnerable children and improve their well-being, especially in healthcare settings.

Speaking during the handover, CCYCDO Founder and Director, Michael Ndelemani, said the initiative was driven by the organisation’s commitment to showing love, care and support to sick children.

He said the organisation focuses on Early Childhood Development (ECD)vand that supporting children in hospitals is in line with its core mission of creating safe, healthy and nurturing environments for children.

“We believe that every child deserves love, care, and a clean environment to recover in. Hospitals can be a scary and lonely place for children and this small gesture is our way of bringing comfort and hope to both the children and their families,” said Ndelemani.

In addition to the donation, the CCYCDO team also cleaned the hospital’s surroundings as a way of contributing to a cleaner and safer environment for patients, guardians and staff.

Ndelemani emphasised that good hygiene is essential in preventing infections and promoting faster recovery for patients.

“Clean surroundings play a major role in maintaining public health, especially in hospitals where patients are already vulnerable. This is our way of complementing the hospital’s efforts in ensuring a hygienic space,” he added.

One of the guardians at the children’s ward, Titha Kenneth, expressed gratitude to CCYCDO for the support, saying the donation had come at the right time.

“We are very thankful for the items and the care shown to our children. It means a lot to us. I hope other organisations will be inspired to do the same,” said Kenneth.

The organisation continues to engage communities through various child-focused initiatives including education, nutrition, and health, with a vision of improving the lives of children and youth in Malawi.
