Njaya Lodge Answers Call for Affordable Tourism

As the country commemorates the 2025 National Tourism Month, holiday resort, Njaya Lodge in Nkhata Bay has introduced a special food menu called “Small Plates Sharing Menu”, which it says has been specifically designed for local tourists.

The lodge, located along Lake Malawi, says it has introduced the food menu in response to the call by the Tourism Minister Vera Kamtukule, who earlier this month, implored service providers to provide reasonable and affordable services to customers.

Njaya Lodge front of the house manager Dixon Phiri said the new menu has been specifically initiated to offer Malawians a chance to treat themselves to a better life.

“When the Tourism Minister urged service providers to introduce services specifically targeting Malawians, we took that call seriously,” he said.

Phiri said Malawians, who would try the special menu, would have an opportunity to taste food that has been prepared using traditional ingredients.

“We have also allocated our best chefs to oversee the preparation of the food in order to give our visitors best service,” said Phiri.

He has since called on Malawians to flock to the lodge.

“This service is for Malawians only and we would hate if they miss it,” he added.

The Ministry of Tourism has since commended the initiative, describing it as vital in promoting the uptake of local cuisines.

“Initiatives like these create exposure and a market for local food producers including farmers,” said the ministry’s spokesperson Joseph Nkosi.

Government designated the month of September as the country’s tourism month to promote the benefits of tourism to local communities and stakeholders.

This year’s tourism day, which falls on September 27, is being commemorated under the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation”.
