Mwimba College of Agriculture to Host Solar-Powered Irrigation Event

Mwimba College of Agriculture (MWICA) says preparations for the college’s “Match-Making Event on Financing Solar-Powered Irrigation Systems” (SPIS) event have been concluded.

The one-day event, scheduled to be held on the 25 July at Mwimba College of Agriculture in Kasungu, is expected to bring together farmers, financial institutions, renewable energy companies, irrigation service providers and policy-makers to explore financing solutions.

MWICA Principal Dr Trinitas Senganimalunje has also said the event would provide a platform for stakeholders to explore collaboration opportunities for scaling solar-powered irrigation in Malawi.

“As a college, which trains people in agriculture, it is always in our interest to see stakeholders bang heads on how the country’s agricultural sector can be uplifted,” she said.

Senganimalunje said through the event, stakeholders will have an opportunity to network with key stakeholders and discover affordable SPIS technologies.

“In essence, this is an opportunity for investors, enterpreneurs and farmers to meet and share notes,” said Senganimalunje.

She said the event will be held under the theme ” Bridging the Gap Between Farmers, Financiers and Irrigation Service Providers for Sustainable Agricultural Growth”.

“And this theme corresponds well with people who want to be part of Malawians pushing towards climate-smart and sustainable agriculture,” she added.

Maloto Chimkombero, a Lilongwe-based organic farmer and owner of Jeremiah 29 Farms has expressed excitement, saying he is eager to attend the event.

“As a farmer, who is eager to boost my irrigation farming, I am eager to attend this event and share notes with my fellow farmers,” said Chimkombero.
