MIPS Donates K6 Million Food and School Items To Orphanage

Malawi Institute of Procurement and Supply (MIPS) has donated assorted items worth K6 million to Chikondi and Mphatso Orphan Care Centre in Area 25, Lilongwe.

The donation, made as part of MIPS’s annual corporate social responsibility initiatives, included 20 bags of maize, eight bags of beans, a bag of rice, soya pieces, sugar, salt and school materials such as exercise books.

Speaking during the handover, MIPS board chairperson, Tisungeni Kandulu said the institution, being a membership-based organisation, is committed to giving back to the communities it serves.

“We realise that food prices have gone up and many people cannot afford them. This donation is our way of easing some of the challenges the orphanage faces in caring for the children,” said Kandulu.

Deputy administrator for the orphanage, Gift Mbewe, thanked MIPS for the support, noting that the centre struggles with food shortages as it has no permanent donors.

“Our main goal is to feed these children, but sometimes they go hungry. This support will go a long way in addressing that challenge and we appeal to more well-wishers to come forward,” said Mbewe.

Chikondi and Mphatso Orphan Care is currently looking after 157 children, ranging from nursery to tertiary education.
