Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) student Innocent Mandili has been selected to showcase one of his innovations at this year’s Sustainability and ESG Africa Conference and Expo scheduled to take place from the 15 to 16 October, 2025 at Sandton in South Africa.
Mandili has qualified to showcase his innovation at the Expo under the SEACon Student Innovation Competition together with four other young innovators from Africa.
The prolific youthful innovator, whose innovations have been extensively covered on ProjectM platforms has said he will showcase an invention called “Thermo EL Stove”, a sustainable solution that provides clean cooking while generating electricity.
“I am humbled and delighted to share that I have been selected as one of the finalists in Africa at the 2025 SEACon Student Innovation Competition,” he said.
Mandili has described his invitation at the expo as a huge milestone.
“It reflects the support, encouragement and prayers I haveve received from mentors, colleagues and well-wishers throughout this journey,” said Mandili.
The Thermo EL Stove uses briquettes and a small amount of grass to produce energy for cooking while generating electricity which is then stored in a power bank for future use.
“In short, I believe my invention has been selected for its ability to reverse environmental degradation currently wracking havoc across Africa,” he added.
The Sustainability and ESG Africa has since described the selected innovators as “change-makers” Africa currently need.
“These are change-makers tackling real-world environmental, social and governance challenges through fresh thinking, innovation and purpose-drive solutions,” said information on its website.
