Kamuzu University of Health and Sciences (Kuhes) has formed an alumni association with renowned media influencer and enterpreneur Pemphero Mphande elected its president.
The association follows the unbundling of the University of Malawi constituent colleges, resulting in Kamuzu College of Nursing and College of Medicine becoming Kuhes while Polytechnic being Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences, Bunda College now is Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources and Chancellor College maintaining the Unima status.
In his acceptance speech, Mphande, who studied Medical Laboratory Sciences at College of Medicine, appealed to all former students of KCN and College of Medicine to join and support the association, whose aim, among others, is to look at the welfare of students.
He said: “To all alumni, help us to spread the news in your groups. I know that there are some alumni who are not aware of this development yet. In the next few days and weeks, we will share on how we can all work together.
“Our attention will quickly shift to the welfare of many students who are struggling with fees and several other issues we can help with to ensure KUHES is running efficiently. With the support of all alumni and the general public who are beneficiaries of the products of KUHES, we will make a difference.”
The election of Mphande, who is also a philanthropist, has been welcomed.
One message from Lyson Chirwa said he deserves the position.
“Even the Alumni Association recognised the remarkable potential in you. Your leadership qualities and exemplary character, speak volumes. You truly deserve this achievement and so much more. Congratulations,” he said.
