A generous donation of K50 million from Goshen City, led by Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, has made it possible for Malawians to watch the highly anticipated film Welcome to Maula Prison for free on YouTube starting at 6 PM this evening.
Speaking during a press conference in Lilongwe, Prophet Bushiri said the donation was made out of compassion and a desire to ensure that everyone in the country access the film.
He emphasised the importance of telling powerful Malawian stories and giving local filmmakers the platform to shine.
“I believe the creators of this film have done a remarkable job, and I trust that they have what it takes to produce another modern, world-class film fit for Netflix,” said Bushiri.
He added that discussions with Netflix are already at an advanced stage and his team is working towards securing a space for Malawian films on the global streaming platform.
Kendall Kamwendo, one of the lead filmmakers from 4Kaya Films Inc., expressed appreciation for Bushiri’s support, saying the funds have motivated the team to aim even higher.
“We are already working on writing a new film, and with this kind of support, we’re confident we can produce something even greater,” said Kamwendo.
He also addressed concerns from the public about the film’s delay to release the film on YouTube, explaining that some processes had to be followed.
“Compared to School Days, which was released four months after production, Welcome to Maula Prison has come out just three months later,” he said.
Desiree Namachotsa, a media representative from 4Kaya Filmz, urged Malawians to watch the film, describing it as both entertaining and educational.
Welcome to Maula Prison will be live on YouTube from this evening, offering viewers across Malawi a chance to experience its powerful storytelling and message firsthand.
