Football Legends Strike Deal With Finish Ministry Church


Football Legends Association has sealed a partnership with Finish Line Ministry marked by donation of assorted clothes and pair of shoes valued at K15 million to Football Legends Association of Malawi in appreciation to the efforts the organisation is doing to support former football players.

The partnership will also see the ministry offering K2.5 million for each of the four years to help legends to invest in small-scale business enterprises.

The religious grouping’s overseer Bishop Yohane Lovemore Kaphesi said during the presentation, on Saturday at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, they have donated 45 boxes of clothes such as shirts, pair of trousers as well as shoes to assist football legends in the country.

“As a church, we have the responsibility to look after the public. Our football legends made the country proud during their prime and they deserve our support,” said Kaphesi.
He said the ministry sourced the consignment from well-wishers in Ohio, USA for the legends to share among themselves or share with their loved ones.

FLA board chairperson Jim Kalua, who is also Malawi National Council of Sports board chairperson, said the donation was a milestone for the association which he founded.
“They were touched after they learnt that I started this association and we were called to join them. They have also offered scholarships for 5 legends on skills and development.I t’s a milestone as it just shows that we are trusted and we are doing a good job,”
The association’s board of trustees general secretary Solomon Gomezgani Mchawi applauded Finish Ministry for the gesture.

“This will go a long way in ensuring the welfare of our legends is enhanced. We are grateful that even a church recognises the importance of supporting the legends,” he said.
Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture Alfred Gangata, who was the guest of honour, commended Finish Line Ministry for their generosity and initiatives in helping the football community.

Finish Line Ministry will commemorate its 40th anniversary ministering in Malawi.
