Farmer Monica Msowoya’s Journey to Success

Monica Msowoya, a 49-year-old farmer from Eneya Village in Mzimba District, has achieved remarkable success in her farming business.

With the support of a K10 million Farm Input loan from the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF), Msowoya was able to make significant profits, enabling her to purchase a brand-new Ford Ranger.

According to Msowoya her farming journey began with small profits, but with the NEEF loan, she has turned her ventures into a thriving business, she grows maize, tobacco, groundnuts and soya beans.

The results have been impressive, with yields of 1,000 tins of maize and 240 bales of tobacco, which she expect to earn her at least K80 million.

Through her hard work and smart investments, Msowoya’s family can now afford quality education for her children and food security at home. She will also soon complete building her modern and beautiful home.

“I owe it all to God for knowledge, I don’t hide to say morden commercial farming is the way to go and if the men to do it, we ladies also we can do it,” said Msowoya.

Msowoya’s inspirations stem from her desire to provide for her family’s needs and improve their living standards.

In her farming journey, she has managed to employ several people around her village and beyond. Msowoya’s goals include expanding her farm’s productivity and serving as a role model for other women in her community.

She has further advises women to pursue their goals.

“Ladies, don’t underestimate your ability. You can achieve anything, just like I did. Don’t wait for permission. Go after what you want and build your own future,” she said.

Agricultural expert Peter Mwitha from Mzimba has hailed Msowoya’s farming journey and goals, saying it is now clear that women have taken the lead, urging young girls in the country to borrow a leaf.
