Anchor Industries, through its Detrex Antibacterial Soap brand, has injected K2 million into the Taekwondo Association of Malawi (TAM) to support the national team’s participation in the Africa Open Series Zone VI Championships set for Maputo, Mozambique, from September 20 to 21.
The sponsorship will facilitate the travel of two athletes, Joseph JK Nyasulu, who will compete in the senior male -74KG category, and Lucy Mphande, who will fight in the junior female +63KG division.
The duo will be under the guidance of coach Stanislaus Phiri, as they face athletes from nine other countries.
During the unveiling ceremony in Blantyre, Anchor Industries Head of Marketing, Faraz Dalvi said the company’s investment goes beyond financial assistance, describing it as a commitment to shaping the future of Malawian sports.
“We believe in the power of discipline, dedication and hard work, values that are equally reflected in both business and sports. This sponsorship is not just about competition, but about giving Malawian youth the opportunity to shine on the world stage,” said Dalvi.
Another senior manager at the company, Sarah Kidy, added that the support is aimed at nurturing young talent.
“The support is more than sponsorship. It is a commitment to nurturing future champions and inspiring a new generation,” she emphasised.
On his part, Taekwondo Association of Malawi General Secretary, Medson Mtila hailed Anchor Industries for stepping in at a crucial time.
“The assistance will go a long way in motivating the athletes to do well at the competition,” said Mtila.
Coach Stanislaus Phiri expressed gratitude to the sponsors and promised that the athletes will make the country proud.
“We will bring home gold medals,” he assured.
