Malawi’s rising football star, Faith Chimzimu, is making headlines as she undergoes professional trials with Italian giants AS Roma, a move that highlights the growing potential of young female footballers from the country.
The 18-year-old forward, who, who has been incredible for the Scorchers and earned the top scorer award at the Goshen City tournament, has also had trials with Denmark’s FC Nordsjælland and Sweden’s Champions League side Hacken.
“This is a dream come true for Faith, and a clear sign that Malawi has world-class talent. We just need to invest in them early,” said George Maguire, founder of Ascent Soccer Academy.
“AS Roma had been following her closely and finally invited her for trials. It shows her consistency and determination.”
Chimzimu’s journey from local pitches to potential move to European clubs serves as an inspiration to many young girls in Malawi.
“Seeing Faith gets these opportunities makes me believe I can also make it, she’s paving the way for all of us,” said 16-year-old Thandi Mwale, an aspiring footballer from Quarry Eagles football club. “
