Rising Hope Network, a non-governmental organization has embarked on distributing school uniforms, sanitary materials, writing materials and provision of bursary to needy students in an effort to promote education in the country.
Rising Hope Network is an organisation that was established in 2020 with the aim of uplifting livelihoods of people living in rural areas.
Speaking to ProjectM, Rising Hope Network Executive Director Lewis Gausi said girls in rural areas continue to be at a disadvantage when it comes to issue of menstrual hygiene.
“From the census, we conducted we found out that 80 percent of girls in rural areas don’t use proper sanitary pads as compared to girls in urban areas. This forces girls to miss lessons during menstrual days, a situation that worries us,” he said.
Gausi further explained that they have been running a health and wellness project at Bowa F.P School and its surrounding community.
The project focuses on promoting hygiene in the school and surrounding community.
“This project was launched when the country was battling with cholera outbreak and knowing how vulnerable children are, we donated items such as dust bins, soap, mops and brooms in response to cholera outbreak, children were also taught how prevent and fight cholera. We also donated note books, pencils and pens to the school,” he said.
The organisation is set to launch a Readmission Policy Campaign at Nafutsa Primary School.
The launch aims at bringing back teen mothers who dropped out of school.
“We are of the view that everyone has the right to access education, we will, therefore, provide them with necessary materials so that they can return to school. We will also engage village leaders, parents, teen and school authorities so that a conducive learning environment is created,” Gausi said.
On the same day, the organisation will also donate school uniforms to children that reside at Dzama Orphanage.
Gausi further appealed for financial assistance for their next projects as most of their projects are self-funded and because of that they work on limited resources.
