The Effie Namwali Foundation (ENF) has embarked on trash collection initiative as one way of ensuring a clean environment.
The trash collection took place on 11th June 2023, at January primary school in Traditional Authority, January, in Thyolo district following the 2023 World Environment Day (WED) that was celebrated on 5th June under the theme ‘beat the plastic pollution ‘.
Speaking during the exercise, the deputy communications director, Desire Chitseko said, “ we decided to embark on the trash collection initiative in order to bring awareness as well as to clean and protect our environment from pollution.”
Chitseko revealed that, the collected trash will be recycled and used for brick making in the near future. And that the exercise will be happening weekly by the ENF girls.
On her part one of the members of the ENF girls club, Esmy John, thanked the ENF for the trash collection initiative and has urged others to take responsibility in ensuring that their environment is always clean to avoid pollution.
John also added that before the trash collection exercise, she was not aware that trash like plastics can be recycled and used for brick making.
Present during the refusal collection exercise were the chiefs, head teacher for January primary school, ENF officials, ENF girls club members and ENF stars.
