Timothy Mwale, a 23-year-old social worker and communications specialist, has taken an initiative to empower vulnerable children and youths in his community through education and social initiatives.
Mwale’s journey to becoming a dedicated social worker and founder of Orphans of Africa Foundation began with his own experiences as an orphaned child.
Having lost his parents at a young age, Timothy understood the challenges faced by vulnerable children and youths in his community.
He made a promise to his mother to take care of his siblings and work towards creating a better future for others.
Through determination and hard work, Timothy secured a bursary to fund his secondary education and later used his savings to support his siblings and other vulnerable children, laying the foundation for what would become the Orphans of Africa Foundation.
As an orphaned child himself, Mwale together with his team of 4 understands the challenges faced by those in similar situations.
He founded Orphans of Africa Foundation (OAF) to provide quality education and support to those in need.
“I was empowered by the need for a change in my community, especially in the remotest and hard-to-reach areas. As an orphaned child, I thought of creating a conducive environment for vulnerable children, youths, and my community by making education accessible,” explained Mwale.
Through OAF, Mwale has implemented various projects, including Literary Education, Sexual and Reproductive Health Challenges, and Vocational Skills and Capacity Building. He has also facilitated a Cleaning up Project and reached out to 42 villages with a Gender-Based Violence Project.
“We have funded 20 vulnerable children with tuition fees and school materials. Some of the beneficiaries are my fellow Mzuzu University students and reached out to 1140 youth with Sexual and Reproductive Health Challenges. Our goal is to create a better future for the most vulnerable members of our community,” said Mwale.
Inkosi Jalavikuba Mnthali, a traditional leader in Mzimba district, has expressed gratitude to Timothy Mwale and the Orphans of Africa Foundation for their initiatives in his area.
The foundation has implemented various projects, including Sexual and Reproductive Health Challenges and Gender-Based Violence projects, which have benefited many youths and communities in his area.
“I am impressed with the work that Timothy and his organisation are doing in my area. The projects they have implemented have brought positive change to our communities, and I urge them to continue with their good work,” said Inkosi Jalavikuwa.
Mwale’s dedication to his community is evident in his words: “Education is a powerful tool in unlocking one’s future. I believe that with full support, we can achieve great things.”
As Mwale pursues his studies in Communication Studies and Business Administration, he remains committed to his mission of empowering his community.
His story serves as an inspiration to many, demonstrating the impact one person can make.
