Malawi’s Hip Hop star Limbani Kalilani, who is popularly known as Tay Grin in music circles, has left for Algeria on Friday alongside other 12 members to participate at this year’s CANEX WKND in Algiers.
Tay Grin left for Algeria barely a week after releasing his international performance schedule for this year.
The programme indicated that he will be live at the CANEX WKND between 16 and 19 October, then at Za Malawi LinkUp in Birmingham, United Kingdom (UK) on October 25, and finally at Rumba Notes Lounge in Seattle, USA on December 14, 2024.
CANEX is an annual event aimed at connecting creatives and investors from across the African continent to create, learn and earn together.
Tay Grin ‘s international gig calendar comes at a time Malawian artists are yearning for global recognition to represent the country well.
He described it as vital for putting Malawi and African creativity on the international map is concerned.
“My invitation and participation at these international events symbolise an honour and recognition of my creativity and talent from Malawi, as a whole. It’s time to take Malawi to the world,” said Tay Grin who recently participated at Zambia’s international Fashion Expo dubbed Lusaka July in September.
The Nyau rap star promised to represent the country well, saying he will set the stages on fire and leave indelible marks.
According to CANEX WKND, this year’s event is expected to develop conversations and provide even more business to business and business to government opportunities through the four -day gathering.
The theme for this year’s CANEX WKND is, “One People, United in Culture, Creating for the World.”
Arts and Culture commentator Vita Chirwa, who is also the President of the Musicians Union of Malawi (MUM) described Tay Grin ‘s international outings as key to exporting Malawi talent.
