Tabitha, Temwa In Wafcon Best XI

Malawi women’s football stars Tabitha Chawinga and her younger sister Temwa made the cut for the 2026 Morocco Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Best Team.

Tabitha, who captains the Scorchers and her sister, inspired a youthful team to Wafcon final with one of the most fairytales in football by beating highly fancied teams.

Temwa won Golden Boot after scoring five goals apiece with Zambia captain Barbara Banda, but provided more assists that her contender.

Finishing runners-up to champions Cameroon, Malawi beat Nigeria 3-2 Egypt 3-1 and lost to rivals Zambia 2-1 to reach the quarter-finals where they bundled season campaigners Ghana 2-1 and saw off third-placed Algeria 3-1 in the semi-finals.

Cameroon befittingly dominated with four players, goalkeeper Michaely Bihina, defender Myrian Nyadjou, midfielder Monique Ngock, forwards Marie Ngah and coach Valentine Nguele.

Zambia’s captain Barbara Banda also was named with hosts Morocco producing defenders Nohaila and Hanane Ait El Haj, Algeria’s defender Ines Belloumou and forward Marine Dafeur completing the Best Eleven.
