A charitable organisation, Shines in the Dark (SID) has organised a fundraising event called Charity Initiative Events on August 3vat Heritage Hotel in Limbe.
SID Director, Ibrahim Yusuf, said the organisation is targeting to raise at least K3.5 million through the event, which will go towards supporting local charitable causes and improving the lives of those in need.
“Our goal is to mobilise resources that will help us reach more people with the support they desperately need. We are expecting around 200 participants, including local business leaders, community members and supporters of our mission,” said Yusuf.
The event is set to blend entertainment with purpose, featuring live performances from a wide lineup of artists, including Aqeel Masinja, Rajab Anusa, Aganga a Jabilu, Abubakar Muhammad Ali, Aisha Samson, Mlakatula Jafali Time, Isack Kadankowa, Abu Daud, Shamila the Poet, Issah Saeed, Jamila Bwanali, Jazilu Mdala, Bamusi Awali, and the much-anticipated return of poet Raphael Sitima.
Sitima, known for his emotionally charged poetry, expressed his excitement ahead of the performance.
“It’s been four years since I last performed live. I can’t wait to get back on stage and share some of my new poems like Othithikana that I have never performed live before. Expect fireworks,” he said.
The fundraising gala will also feature speeches from distinguished guests, including Minister of Water and Sanitation Abida Mia, Dr. Imran Sharif and Bro Ishmael Katawala, who are expected to highlight the importance of community support and social responsibility.
Founded in May 2018, Shines in the Dark has been at the forefront of charitable efforts in Malawi, focusing on bringing hope and practical support to the less privileged.
The organisation has appealed to the public and well-wishers to attend the event and contribute to a cause.
