A group of Living Waters Church women operating under the name “Sara Women” has donated assorted food and non-food items worth K1.8 million to Area 25 community hospital in Lilongwe.
The donation, made Sunday include a surgical maternity bed, Sugar, Soap, Soybeans and Salt.
Coordinator of the group, Nora Kapanda has indicated that the women decided to make the donation after noticing challenges patients were facing at the hospital.
“As a group, we are always inspired by the word of God specifically words from the book of Matthew 25 verse 36 which states that I was sick and you visited me,” she said.
Kapanda said the group also hopes the donation will help hundreds of people who rely on the hospital.
“Area 25 community hospital helps a lot of people from Area 25, M’gona and Area 51, areas with hundreds of people,” said Kapanda.
She said the donation of surgical maternity bed has been specifically made to respond to the need for clean safe delivery for expectant mothers.
“It is our wish to promote clean and safe delivery for mothers in our community and we encourage other women in churches to participate in community service projects like this,” she added.
Nurse-In-charge of the hospital, Stella Jumbe commended the women for the donation.
“This donation has come at an opportune time when the hospital is currently conducting an average of 20 to 25 deliveries per day,” said Jumbe.
