In a bid to improve maternal and newborn health outcomes, Timothy Mwale of Orphans of Africa Foundation in partnership with Birthing Kits Foundation Australia has donated 60 Clean Birth Kits to Rumphi district hospital.
The donation, which was made to address the high Maternal Mortality Rate in the district, is expected to benefit 60 pregnant mothers directly and improve health outcomes in the high-need community.
Speaking about the donation, Masugzo Simwenge head of Nurses at Rumphi District Hospital highlighted the challenges the hospital faced in maintaining proper hygiene during deliveries prior to receiving the Clean Birth Kits.
“We were often forced to improvise or rely on limited resources, which compromised the quality of care,” explained Simwenge.
The hospital’s administration has expressed gratitude for the support and partnership that made this initiative possible.
With the Clean Birth Kits, the hospital expects to reduce infection risks during delivery, improve maternal and newborns health and contribute to reducing maternal and newborn mortality rates in the district.
According to Timothy Mwale, the donation is part of a broader effort to improve maternal and newborn health outcomes in Malawi.
“The Clean Birth Kits provide essential tools for a clean and safe delivery, reducing the risk of infections and complications, the donation will promote hygienic delivery practices, the kits will contribute to better health outcomes for mothers and newborns,” explained Mwale.
Mwale further said that the partnership between Orphans of Africa Foundation and Birthing Kits Foundation Australia has made it possible for the Clean Birth Kits to reach Rumphi District Hospital.
The hospital’s administration looks forward to continuing working with the organisations to ensure that every mother and newborn in the community receives the best possible care.
