MUST Students Develop Digital Health Solutions

Students from the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) have demonstrated their innovation skills by developing digital solutions aimed at improving healthcare delivery in Malawi.

The students took part in an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System Innovation Challenge held in Blantyre on August 13, 2026.

The challenge brought together 11 teams from different programmes to design practical, safe and user-friendly digital systems that can support efficient management of patient information.

MEDTech Innovators emerged as winners and received K3 million, after impressing judges with their proposed solution.

Executive Dean of the Academy of Medical Sciences at MUST, Dr Mwayiwawo Madanitsa, said the university remains committed to nurturing innovations that can create a wider impact in society.

The winning team, comprising fresh Bachelor of Science in Business Information Technology graduates Arthur Kapatuka and Precious Kaipa, said they were excited by the achievement and credited MUST for equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to turn their ideas into practical solutions.

VAC Innovations finished second and received K2 million, while Grand Gaze came third and received K1 million.

The challenge has demonstrated how young Malawians can use education, technology and creativity to develop solutions to real-life challenges and contribute to the future of healthcare in Malawi.
