MUBAS Students Develop Exam Preparations App

A group of students from the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) has created an innovative app that will help students to prepare for exams by providing solutions to past paper questions.

They are Timothy Miamba, Chiyembekezo Chilembwe, Nyarai Banda and Mark Mwanavina.

The application called “Nyani” has the ability to assist students in their academic pursuits, particularly in revising for exams.

The group’s representative Miamba said they decided to develop the app as one way of simplifying an enormous work students have when preparing for exams.

“So, as a group we sat down and developed this app after noticing the difficulties we were passing through when preparing for exams,” he said.

Miamba said the app acts as a bank of topical questions and yearly past papers for various courses.

“And that allows students to build online exams and practice with past papers easily,” said Miamba.

He denied assertions that the app has the ability to fuel laziness among students, saying the platform is there to simplify work.

“This is just like any other portal where people can access important materials for use and I don’t think that’s bad,” he added.

The app has since helped the group to win the 2025 MUBAS Innovator of the Year award.

The award was presented at the MUBAS 2025 Innovation Week ceremony that concluded Tuesday in Blantyre.
