Minister Opens New Classrooms at Kakwale Primary School

The Minister of Basic and Secondary Education, Honourable Madalitso Wirima Kambauwa, yesterday presided over the official opening of newly constructed classroom blocks at Kakwale Primary School, located in Traditional Authority Kalikokha in Kasungu District.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to achieving Malawi’s long-term development blueprint, Malawi 2063, through strategic investments in the education sector, including the construction of climate-resilient infrastructure.

“We are rehabilitating infrastructure damaged by cyclones, rebuilding classrooms and providing necessary infrastructure where it is needed. This is crucial to achieving our administrative goals, making education resilient, and ensuring positive outcomes that align with Malawi 2063,” said Kambauwa.

She highlighted that the initiatives are being carried out under the Malawi Education Reform Programme (MERP), a project implemented with support from the World Bank.

Through MERP, several classroom blocks are being constructed across the country to address challenges of access and quality in the education system.

Prior to the commissioning ceremony, the Minister toured various ongoing education infrastructure projects in the district.

These included the construction of additional classrooms at Nkhamenya Boys Primary School, an ICT laboratory at Lojwa Community Day Secondary School, and teachers’ houses at Chankhomi Secondary School.

The developments come as part of the broader government strategy to strengthen the delivery of basic and secondary education, ensure improved learning environments and promote teacher retention, particularly in rural areas.

Community members and local leaders expressed gratitude for the government’s continued efforts in improving education infrastructure in the area.
