Renowned Malawian religion broadcaster Victor Kaonga has been promoted to the position of TWR Vice-President for Africa effective 1 October 2026.
President and CEO of TWR Africa Andy Schick announced the news.
According to a statement, Kaonga, currently TWR’s International Director for East and Southern Africa, will fill part of the role of Branko Bjelajac, the Vice-President for Africa, CAMENA (Central Asia, Middle East and North Africa) and Europe, beginning on Oct. 1, when Bjelajac retires.
Schick said: “Victor knows firsthand what it is to serve within his local community as well as the realities of ministry leadership across country borders, and in every sense, he is a true servant leader.
“He is wise, considered and trusted and I am grateful to have him stepping into this critical role at this important moment of transition.”
Bjelajac congratulated Kaonga on the promotion, saying: “Victor has shown expertise in journalism leadership, and broadcasting, significantly contributing to the ministry of TWR in Africa.”
Former Minister of Information Principal Secretary Baldwin Chayamwaka has also welcomed his appointment.
“Congratulations Victor Kaonga. Well-deserved promotion. You’re truly a trailblazer in Ministry, servant leadership, journalism and broadcasting,” he said.
Kaonga, who has been the face of TWR Malawi for years, rose through the ranks to become national director.
He served for TWR Malawi from 1999, first as a producer, manager and national director through 2022.
He became Ministry Director for Southern Africa in January 2023 and was later promoted to serve as International Director for the larger region. During his tenure with TWR Malawi, he led the FM transmitter expansion effort that resulted in covering the entire country with the gospel of Christ over the air.
He has a degree in social science from the University of Malawi and a master’s in global journalism from Örebro University in Sweden.
He also holds other master’s degrees in Business Administration and Diplomacy and International Relations. He is the author of three books.
