MALAWIAN ACTOR IN UGANDA FOR AFRICA MONOLOGUE CHALLENGE

Lilongwe-based actor Kelvin Maxwell Ngoma is in Uganda for the Season 2 of African Monologue Challenge, an initiative that celebrates African creativity.

Ngoma made it to the final top 10 of the season in April this year with the first season held in 2022 with over 500 applicants across Africa.

Africa Monologue Challenge is an initiative that promotes African creativity through monologues and production of yearly Pan-African films with 10 finalists, nurturing African acting talent and fostering a united and collaborative African talent, among others.

Ngoma left the country for Uganda on 7 August where he joined nine other finalists in preparation for the Challenge.

The African Monologue Challenge drew 2000 entries for the second season from across Africa with the Malawian making it to the finals with other contestants from Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Cameroon and Cote D’Ivoire.

Speaking in an interview with ProjectM, he expressed gratitude for those who contributed towards his travelling costs.

“I am grateful to Wendy Harawa who came to my rescue and sponsored my trip as I appealed for financial support. The financial assistance rendered has accorded me this big opportunity to showcase my talent,” he said.

Currently, Ngoma is engaged in a three-week programme where contestants network and prepare for the finals.

“Malawians can show their support by voting for me through the link below. The people I am competing with are big and I can only bring this home if I get more votes and voting is still on until 21 August,” he said.

Ngoma is known for being featured in films such as The Boy who harnessed the wind, a movie that was submitted for Oscar Award in 2020, Is the President dead, Fatsani and Submerged, among others.

Should Ngoma be successful, he will win a cash prize of US $1000 (about K2 million) and Malawi will be in the setting of a pan-African film which will feature actors from across Africa.
