Malawi Women’s Football Team Set For Morocco Friendly

Malawi National Women’s Football Team leave for Casablanca, Morocco for an international friendly match on Thursday.

The Scorchers head coach Lovemore Fazili said the 24-member players include foreign-based players such as Tabitha Chawinga, Rose Kabzere, Sabina Thom, Vanessa Chikupira and Bernadettar Mkandawire.

Fazili said the Friendly match help to build cohension of the players in preparations for the 2026 final Women’s African Cup of Nations qualifiets in October.

He said: “We has a wonderful week of training camp at Mpira Village. There were some players who had knocks but the doctors took care of them and everyone is fit and ready for the journey.

“Being one of the strongest teams in Africa, the Friendly match against Morocco is going to give our players confidence as we prepare for Angola.”

During the last two Fifa window, Malawi played Zambia in which they lost 2-1 and won 3-2 and fall to South Africa 3-0 and 2-1.

The travelling squad is as follows;

Goalkeepers: Mercy Sikelo (Kukoma Ntopwa), Yamikani Kaonga (MDF Lioness) and Ireen Sibande (Silver Strikers).

Defenders: Bernadettar Mkandawire (Biik Kazygurt, Kazakhstan), Ireen Khumalo and Justina Jumbo (Silver Strikers), Rose Alufandika and Olivia Phikani (Kukoma Ntopwa Women), Maggie Chavula (Ascent Academy).

Midfielders: Leticia Chinyamula, Victoria Mkwala and Faith Chinzimu (Ascent Academy), Tendai Sani and Zainab Kapanda (Nyasa Bullets), Asimenye Simwaka (MDF Lions), Funny Magombo (Kukoma Ntopwa), Jessie Yosefe (Civo), Rose Kabzere (Montpellier, France).

Strikers: Vanessa Chikupira (Biik Kyzgurt, Kazakhstan), Chisomo Banda (Silver Strikers), Sabina Thom (Lanchkhuti, Georgia), Fatima Lali (Ascent Academy) and Tabitha Chawinga (Olympique Lyon).
