The Malawi Institute of Education (MIE) has openned a museum designed to showcase the country’s educational history.
The museum, located at MIE offices in Zomba will, among others, display valuable information about the country’s education.
MIE Public Relations Officer Moses Mailosi has said the museum is open for all.
Mailosi said visitors at the facility would have an opportunity to learn how education systems have changed over time.
“Visitors can explore exhibits featuring pioneers who shaped the country’s education system, replicas of early school setups and authentic materials used in the past,” he said through a statement.
He said patrons will also have an opportunity to appreciate how teaching methods have changed.
“The facility has a unique collection of data which provides valuable insight into the country’s education history, making it an engaging experience for students, educators and people interested in the country’s development,” said Mailosi.
The MIE has since indicated that it is still gathering more information to help the museum become a centre of history.
“We are calling for partners to contribute to this ongoing project by sharing information and artefacts about the history of education in Malawi,” he added.
Education expert-cum child rights activist Rabson Woodwell-Banda has hailed the institute for opening the facility.
“This is remarkable and I hope students will use the facility wisely,” said Banda.
