Inspector General of Malawi Police Service Richard Luhanga has awarded eight officers for a successful operation to rescue kidnapped British national Nasrat Osman from a hostage on the outskirts of Blantyre City.
Osman, an accountant, was abducted at her home in a leafy location of Mt Pleasant in Blantyre on arrival from work, two weeks ago and was being held hostage at a house in Chazunda, Blantyre.
The operation, which left Deputy Inspector General Dr Noel Kayira with gun wounds, also claimed the lives of two kidnappers in an exchange of gunfire.
In a statement the National Police Spokesperson Gladys Chiwaula said the gesture was to appreciate exceptional work that the officers carried out.
The Police earlier offered a K30 million bounty for individuals to give tips or leads to help in the rescue mission.
Meanwhile, business magnet Lester Mulli commended the officers for rescuing the British national, saying insecurity of a country scares investors and tourists.
Minister of Homeland Security Peter Mukhitho also commended the officers and the Deputy IG for leading the operation to rescue the British citizen.
