Football Legends Association (FLA) has extended its inclusion criteria by approving members from other sports disciplines.
The FLA has included netball legends Peace Kalua, Eleanor Mapulanga and Judith Chalusa in its membership.
FLA Board General Secretary and Legal Counsel Solomon Gomezgani Mchawi said the association has taken the new direction to ensure gender mainstreaming while staying in line with its constitution.
“We have taken this new direction to ensure gender mainstreaming while staying in line with our constitution,” Mchawi said.
FLA has also accepted membership requests from 13 former Malawi women’s footballers, including Shira Dimba, Lukia Sanudi, Taziona Nasimba, Lovemore Nyakamera, Tisadane Bokosi, Hellen Jada Duwa, Memory Chisamba, Ratipher Malunjika, Chikondi Banda, Bridget Chongo, Patricia Makwakwa, Mable Alice Msosa, Patricia Mnyaka and Chrissy Kasiya.
Mchawi stressed that the approval was a very difficult exercise because FLA received overwhelming applications for membership.
“It was a very difficult exercise because we received overwhelming applications for membership,” he said.
FLA, originally founded as JK Productions and rebranded in 2024, focuses on dignity, empowerment, and the well-being of former football players and administrators.
Football administrator Rabson Woodwell has hailed the move, calling it progressive.
“This is a progressive move that will unite legends across sports and give them the recognition they deserve,” Woodwell said.
