The Eswazini Football Club, based in Mzimba District, is making waves by changing the lives of young people in the area.
The team, comprising players as young as 14, has already won three competitions, including the prestigious Castel Cup.
Coach James Sibande reveals that the club’s primary goal is to steer youth away from negative influences and behaviours.
“We started this club to save young people from indulging in bad behaviours. Their ultimate aim is to rise through the ranks and play in Division 1 and eventually, the Super League of Malawi,” says Sibande
However, the team faces maany challenges, especially funding, saying they are struggling to cover transportation costs, which is hindering their progress.
Sibande is appealing to well-wishers for support to help them achieve their dreams.
One of the team members, Finisela Sibande, underlines how the club has transformed his life after the Malawi School Certificate Examinations (Form 4) he had nothing to do in the village.
“My life has changed a lot ever since I joined the club. I now have a purpose of life, and my life will no longer be the same,” he says.
The community is also taking notice of the positive impact of the Eswazini Football Club. Enoch Mawelera, a community member, praises the club, saying, through the club, most youth in the area are refraining from immoral behaviours.
He hopes this club will continue to transform many lives of young people in Mzimba district.
Mawelera also believes that with support, the Eswazini Football Club has the potential to achieve great things and inspire more young people not only in Northern Region but also Malawi as a whole .
