In a bid to promote women’s empowerment and financial independence, CTS Courier has trained over 300 women from three constituencies in Zomba City in soap making, peanut butter production, cooking oil production and financial management.
The training, held at Gymkhana Ground in Zomba, was facilitated by officials from the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Corporation (SMEDCO).
Speaking after the training, CTS Courier Marketing and Communications Officer Vannessa Kameza said the initiative was aimed at equipping women with practical skills to help them become self-reliant.
“This initiative was aimed at equipping women with practical skills to help them become self-reliant and financially independent,” said Kameza.
Kameza said the programme would be extended to Lilongwe and Mzuzu cities between January and March next year to reach more women across the country.
In her remarks, Zomba Malosa Member of Parliament Grace Kwelepeta, who is also Chairperson of the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians, commended CTS Courier for the initiative.
“This initiative has the potential to improve the economic well-being of women and their families, and contribute to Malawi’s economy by promoting local production,” said Kwelepeta.
One of the beneficiaries, Emily Bwalambo from Zomba Malosa, said the training had equipped her with essential business skills.
“This training has equipped me with essential business skills to help me achieve financial independence,” said Bwalambo.
Some of the participants have since vowed to use the knowledge gained through the training to launch businesses.
