A Ntcheu-based organisation Chamanza Community Foundation (CCFD) has mobilised over 500 textbooks to be donated to three public schools in the area of Inkosi Njolomole in the district.
CCFD launched the three-month mobilisation exercise in June this year through a campaign dubbed “Mwana wa Nzako Donate a Book Campaign”.
The organisation’s executive director Enock Chataika said the youth-led entity decided to conduct the initiative after noticing challenges the schools were facing.
He said the books will be donated to Kadzakalowa community day secondary school, Njolomole community day secondary school and Mchenga junior primary school.
“After noticing an inadequacy of school learning materials in these schools, we were compelled to undertake this initiative,” he said.
Chataika said well-wishers that were reached by the organisation have managed to donate Mathematics, Chichewa, English and Science textbooks.
“We are glad that our campaign received a positive response from various quarters,” said Chataika.
The organisation has since implored schools that will receive the textbooks to take good care of them.
“Our wish is to expand to other schools and not necessarily going back to the same schools that have already benefitted,” he added.
Education expert Rabson Woodwell Banda has since commended CCFD for the initiative, describing it as patriotic.
“This is the kind of patriotism we need from Malawians and I like it,” he said.
