A 27-year-old man, Osward Moyo, is making a difference in the education sector by voluntarily repairing 150 damaged desks at Mauni Primary School in the Khwema area of Dowa District, free of charge.
Moyo said the initiative was inspired by his concern after seeing learners sitting on the floor due to a shortage of functional desks. He said he decided to use his skills to improve the learning environment for the children without expecting any financial reward.
He has since appealed to well-wishers to support him with industrial-grade welding machinery to help expand the initiative to other schools across the country.
Moyo said his ambition is to contribute to national development by ensuring that more learners have access to a conducive environment for learning.
Mauni Primary School Head Teacher, Modis Kasambara, commended Moyo for his generosity, describing the initiative as a valuable contribution to the education sector.
Kasambara also encouraged Malawians to take an active role in supporting educational initiatives, emphasising that collective efforts are essential in driving national development.
He further called on the government to support young people like Moyo, whose passion and commitment demonstrate the potential of youth to contribute meaningfully to community transformation.
