Local Innovator Unveils Ride-Hailing App to Transform Urban Transport

Local innovator and entrepreneur Wilkings Mijiga has unveiled a new ride-hailing platform called Taxido App, aimed at transforming urban transport in the country.

The app is being described as a Malawian equivalent of Uber and has already started helping people in Lilongwe and Blantyre cities.

It allows car owners to register as drivers while passengers can book safe and affordable rides directly from their phones.

The goal, Mijiga says, is to provide reliable mobility within the country’s two major cities.

“We saw a gap in how people move around our cities and decided to build this App which is about giving people an easier, safer way to travel without relying on personal vehicles every day,” Mijiga said.

According to Mijiga, the platform is designed to be simple and accessible allowing passengers to download and use the app to request rides, track drivers in real time, and pay digitally.

“Drivers, on the other hand, can sign up, manage bookings, and earn income through the service,” said Mijiga.

Mijiga added that convenience was the driving force behind the innovation.

“The app is a platform where people can travel easily without using their personal vehicles whether going to work, school, or running errands, Taxido connects you to a driver within minutes,” he said.

The app is already available for download on both the App Store and Google Play, making it easy for Android and iPhone users to get started.

Lilongwe-based Tapiwa Kaulimbo has hailed the App saying it will help to alleviate transport challenges in Malawi’s urban centers.

“Our urban centers have long been characterised by inconsistent taxi services and safety concerns, especially at night and I hope this App helps to resolve that,” said Kaulimbo.
