New Thyolo District Market and Depot projects, budgeted at K15 billion, with funding from Transformation Through Diversification Enterprenuership, has taken off with contractors clearing the ground work.
According to information from Thyolo District Council, speaking on conditions of anonymity said the storied market will accommodate 74 shops, 104 concrete benches, two parking areas and a stairway for the elderly and people with disability to access the top floors.
“Once completed, this project will enhance the beauty of Thyolo Boma because they will be modern and magnificent structures,” said the official.
The official ground-breaking ceremony of the two projects is expected to be done soon by the Minister of Local Government Ben Phiri who is also the Member of Parliament for Thyolo Central Constituency.
Trade, which is a six-year government project, is aimed at improving rural livelihoods in the country through construction of good markets as well as depots.
