Malawi Shines at Intra-Africa Trade Fair in Algeria

At least 12 Malawian companies drawn from agriculture, manufacturing, ceramics and financial sector showcased their products and services at the Third Intra-Africa Trade Fair (IATF) currently underway in Algerian capital, Algiers.

Among others, the companies have used the week-long fair which begun on the 4 September, 2025 to showcase what Malawian companies are capable of producing and offering.

Speaking on behalf of the Malawian delegation at the fair, secretary for Trade and Industry ministry, Christina Zakeyu said the fair has helped Malawi in her drive to boost the volume of exports.

“As you are aware, Malawi is working to reposition its trade strategies by, among others, making its economy an outward-looking economy where exports drive growth and create jobs,” she said.

Zakeyu said the country’s participation at the fair underlines the desire to become an active player in regional trade.

“This is where our exporters meet real demand and understand the requirements for entering new markets,” said Zakeyu.

She said Malawi would work towards boosting exports of agricultural products, including tea, rice, sugar, soya, coffee and groundnuts to north African countries where she said the products are in high demand.

“This is a perfect opportunity for us to create strategies that can facilitate smooth export of our products,” she added.

One of the country’s companies participating at the fair, The Cannabis Regulatory Authority has since expressed satisfaction with how the fair has progressed, saying its participation has helped to open doors for investors in the industrial hemp cultivation.

“We came here to showcase what licenced industrial hemp farmers are achieving in Malawi and I am glad that it has been a successful fair,” said CRA director general, Ketulo Salipira.

The fair is being held under the theme “Gateway to New Opportunities”.
