The Ministry of Tourism has launched the 2025 National Tourism Month with a call to service providers to provide reasonable and affordable services to customers.
Tourism Minister Vera Kamtukule has made the appeal Monday at the ministry’s headquarters in Lilongwe.
Addressing the media, Kamtukule underlined the need for service providers to use the month wisely by promoting their services to customers effectively.
“As we launch the 2025 National Tourism Month, I urge all service providers to please reduce your rates,” she said.
Kamtukule condemned the tendency of some operators who she said are charging unreasonable fees, saying such tendencies have the possibility of affecting efforts being made by authorities to uplift tourism.
“If you are charging exorbitant prices, a lot of people will shun you and you will be out of business,” said Kamtukule.
She implored local service providers to introduce separate services for the locals, saying such initiatives may help to drive up local tourism.
“It is our wish to see Malawians flocking to our tourism centres because tourism can’t thrive without them,” she added.
Government designated the month of September as the country’s tourism month to promote the benefits of tourism to local communities and stakeholders.
This year’s tourism day, which falls on September 27, is being commemorated under the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation”.
