A group of university graduates based in Mangochi district is putting knowledge into practice after launching a poultry business.
Led by one of its founders, Chinsisi Yesaya, Patsogolo Farms specialises in raising chickens and quails for eggs and meat.
Established in 2023, Yesaya has indicated that Patsogolo Farms also specialises in poultry feed production.
He said the group decided to team up after noticing a barrage of complaints consumers were are making about a lack of quality poultry products within their community.
“As a group of young people, we kept seeing the same issue of no one providing better services in as far as poultry business is concerned,” he said.
Yesaya said soon after graduating, the group decided to unite and establish the farm which has now grown into one of the best service providers in as far as poultry products are concerned.
“So, we are now able to sell quality chickens or quails to customers, sell disease-resistant chicks to other farmers as well as selling affordable poultry feed to farmers,” said Yesaya.
The group has now decided to go a step further by opening one of the best hatcheries at Traditional Authority Mponda in the district.
“This hatchery will be producing approximately 1,000 chicks per week which nearby farmers can depend on,” he added.
Asked on how much profit the group is currently making, Yesaya said profit varies according to seasons.
“But on average, we are able to make enough profit for reinvestment, pay salaries for our employees as well as supporting our daily needs,” he said.
The group’s exploits have since prompted the government of Malawi to award a grant of K10 million through the Youth Innovation Fund initiative, a grant which the group hopes will boost its operations.
