Malawi Under-21 Team Camp For World Tourney

The Malawi Under-21 Netball Team has been called to camp starting September 24 in preparation for Netball World Youth Cup in European nation of Gibraltar.

This is the final 20-day camp in Lilongwe before departure for the World Netball Youth Cup in Gibraltar.

In a statement, Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) released and signed by general secretary Yamikani Kauma stated that the 17-player squad ahead of the global showpiece scheduled from September 19 to 28.

“The squad is expected to be in camp until it travels to Gibraltar on September 15. We are confident that the players will give their all and be refined before leaving for the World Youth Cup,” she said.

The squad has familiar faces with only defender Ides Zachariah being the only addition to the squad that recently featured in the three-match international test series against Zambia a few weeks ago.

In an interview, Under-21 national team coach Noel Mussa said he was confident his charges would deliver.

In the technical panel, Mussa will be assisted by Christina Mkwanda while Vincent Shombe, Anne Kapatuka and Sella Msimuko, are physical trainer, team manager and team doctor, respectively.

The following players have been shortlisted for camp: Defenders: Zachariah, Aisha Gama, Chimwemwe Dzanja, Esther Phiri, Christina Type, Martha Matupi, Sophilate Banda, Prisca Banda. Attackers: Alinafe Chaima, Adidya Juma, Shira Nkhoma, Melia Soko and Mestina Mtete. Shooters: Ida Mhone, Stella Matelezi, Florence Jeke and Getrude Makanganya.
