The Malawi-based Bravehearts Ladies have once again etched their name in the history books by defending their crown at the 2025 Annual Wits Lady Bucks Basketball Tournament with a thrilling 59–52 victory over the Celtics in Sunday’s final.
Roared on by a spirited crowd at the Wits University court, Bravehearts showcased grit, skill and unshakeable teamwork to hold off a relentless Celtics side.
The win cements their status as one of Southern Africa’s most formidable women’s basketball outfits, claiming the prestigious title for the second year running.
Leading from the front, Orlin Londo turned in a masterclass performance, earning the coveted Most Valuable Player award for her decisive scoring, defensive hustle and leadership on the court.
This latest triumph adds to a stellar season for Bravehearts, coming just three months after they lifted the Ashraf Lodweyk trophy also on South African soil.
Team captain, Madalitso Kadiwa, hailed the victory as “a testament to our hard work, faith, and love for the game,” while head coach Griffin Kalua praised the squad’s composure under pressure.
“These ladies have proven they can handle the biggest moments and still deliver with style,” said Kalua.
With celebrations in full swing, the Bravehearts Ladies are not only flying the Malawian flag high but also inspiring a new generation of girls to dream big and aim for excellence on the court.
