LCDM Distributes Farm Inputs to 500 Farmers in Neno

Link Community Development Malawi (LCDM), through its Climate Just Communities project, has distributed farm inputs worth over K47 million to 500 less-privileged households in Traditional Authority Symon, Neno District.

The distribution aims to support irrigation farmers by equipping them with essential inputs and skills to boost resilience against climate change and improve food security.

LCDM Project Officer for Neno, Monica Gondwe, said the inputs target households already engaged in irrigation farming as a climate adaptation strategy.

Each household received two kilogrammes of maize seed, 10 grammes each of okra and eggplant seeds, and 10 kilogrammes of NPK and Urea fertilisers.

Gondwe said  the inputs  would be boosted with Mbeya organic manure to increase yield capacity.

Farmers were also trained in pest management and Mbeya manure preparation.

Neno Principal Agriculture Officer, Whyton Fole, commended LCDM for the timely support, noting that over 38,000 households were hit by dry spells, with maize among the worst-affected crops.

A beneficiary, Prisca Molande from Mtingala Village, said the support brings hope to her family after struggling with hunger caused by poor yields.

The two-year Climate Just Communities project, funded by the Scottish Government, is being implemented by LCDM in partnership with DAI UK Global to promote sustainable development in climate-affected communities.
