Malawi’s Chess Legend Namangale In US For Conference

Malawi’s chess icon Susan Namangale, who is the former Chess Association of Malawi president is in Washington DC, US for a Smart Moves Education summit.

The Dadaz Chess Academy founder and former Malawi National Council of Malawi board member said in a statement the summit is an international education conference that explores how chess sharpens the mind, fosters creativity and transforms learning in and beyond the classroom.

The conference has drawn participants from 20 countries with various backgrounds as leaders, teachers, marketers and researchers.

She said: “This event is timely for me as I will have a chance to collaborate with education partners to support future education projects in Malawi and exploring the transformative role of chess in the Malawi education system.

“We are already exploring a research in this area with with Uyanga Byambaa and Chomora Mikeka, who are keen to support this research project.”

Namangale also disclosed her previous chess conference in the US resulted in connecting with Gift of Chess founder whose organisation helped her distribute 2000 chess sets, among others, in schools, prisons, universities and public institutions.

She also thanked the International Chess Federation and US Embassy for making the trip possible amid her busy schedule and challenges.

Meanwhile, a lot of people have congratulated her for making Malawi proud.

The conference will be held on the sidelines of World Schools Chess Tournament.
