The Secretary for Higher Education, Dr. Levis Eneya has said the government is committed to improving infrastructure developments in the education sector.
He made the sentiments during a tour of Mchinji Teacher Training College (TTC) to appreciate the ongoing infrastructure constructions being undertaken in the country.
This initiative aligns with the Malawi 2063 Agenda focusing on the transformation the education sector to support Malawi’s long-term development goals.
Speaking to ProjectM, Eneya said the Malawi Government is committed to investing in education with the completion of 48 staff houses, hostels and provision of advanced learning tools.
The Secretary for Higher Education also said such developments are vital for fostering skills in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) which are necessary for the growth of the nation.
“Teachers require improved welfare in order for them to effectively focus and prepare quality lesson plans,” he said.
Principal for Mchinji TTC, McCloud Nkhata said the college has been equipped with advanced equipments which includes Science and ICT laboratories, modern library, upgraded hostels and cafeteria mounted with both gas and electric appliances.
He has since expressed gratitude for the government’s tireless support towards education infrastructure development.
“Mchinji TTC is among the benchmarked for advanced Teachers Training College in the country designated to award Diplomas and Degrees in Primary Teacher Education,” said Nkhata.
Similar TTCs in the country of such standards are Chikwawa and Rumphi.
