Airtel Money in conjunction with Wella Medical Aid Society (WEMAS) has launched Thanzi packages through Airtel Money’s platform in the country.
Managing Director for Airtel Money, Thokozani Sande said the Thanzi packages are aimed at enhancing medical insurance to the locals countrywide through the Airtel Money platform.
Sande told ProjectM that the partnership will help to bridge the gap which the communities in the rural areas face.
Sande said the product will give hope to the mothers in the remote areas who could have no access to such services of insurance.
According to the managing director, the packages will ease the fathers who were worried about medical better for the families who goes without care for too long.
“This product will not require paperwork, no queuing which will ensure dignity and convenience,” he emphasised.
Chief of Health Services responsible for Reforms, Matias Nkhoma said the introduction of Thanzi Micro-Health Insurance Scheme is a step towards achieving universal health coverage.
He has since hailed the two institutions for bringing this scheme which he said was easier to open for the rural areas to join.
Anderson Gondwe, Board Chairperson for WEMAS disclosed that the scheme will increase health insurance coverage from 1.5% to about 30%.
Meanwhile, WEMAS has paid one year’s insurance cover for employees and orphans at Zoe Foundation and the elderly and care-givers at Mai Mbambande.
Speaking during the event in Lilongwe, Zoe Foundation founder Temwani Chilenga said the micro-insurance cover will make a significant difference in the lives of the children and staff at the facility.
“Access to healthcare has always been one of our biggest challenges. This medical insurance cover will take off a burden from our shoulders,” said Chilenga.
She added that the support will allow the foundation to redirect resources to other pressing needs such as education and nutrition.
“It gives us peace of mind knowing that the medical needs of our children are secured. We are truly grateful to Wemas for this partnership,” she said.
Wemas Acting CEO Tione Mzungu said the company is proud to support institutions like Zoe Foundation through the Thanzi micro-insurance scheme, which offers in affordable and accessible health coverage for vulnerable groups.
