The preparations for this year’s Mulanje Porters Race are at an advanced stage for 12 July at Likhubula in Mulanje District.
Spokesperson for the organising committee, Jimmy Maloya has confirmed the development.
He said government, through the Ministry of Tourism and Malawi National Sports Council will be in attendance.
Maloya told ProjectM that the guest of honour will be Tourism Minister Vera Kamtukule.
The spokesperson was quick to reveal that participants to the race will be required to pay a registration fee.
“Females will pay an amount K2,000 each, K3,000 is for males each while foreigners will pay $10 (K17,500),” he said.
According to Maloya K55 million is expected to cater for the event and is urging well-wishers to assist.
Madalitso Byson says she would like to be part of the participants saying it will be her first time to join the race.
She said she is yet to pay her participation money but was quick to say by tomorrow she is going to pay.
“I want to run the marathon not necessarily to win but to have an exposure,” she said.
