A team of South Korean medical specialists has set up a three-day free medical outreach camp at Mseche Health Clinic, about 10 kilometers off the Lilongwe–Salima road from Kang’oma.
The free service started on July 7 offering a wide range of free medical services including urology, obstetrics and gynecology, ear, nose and throat (ENT), plastic surgery, orthopaedics, family medicine and pediatrics.
The outreach was hosted by Daeyang Luke Hospital in collaboration with Onnuri Church of Korea.
According to hospital management, the visiting team known as the Bee Team, is made up of 16 volunteers, including eight highly skilled doctors across eight medical specialties.
“This is a great opportunity for people living in areas with limited access to medical care. We are calling upon the public to make the most of this free service,” said a statement from Daeyang Luke Hospital.
The Bee Team is not new to medical missions. With experience in emergency response, the team has served in disaster-hit regions such as Southeast Asia after the 2005 Tsunami, in Haiti following the 2010 earthquake and during the 2011 cholera outbreak in the same country.
The doctors say their mission is guided by a desire to serve communities that face barriers to healthcare, and to extend not only treatment but also the love of God through action.
“We believe in a healing that goes beyond medicine. We want our service to reflect care, dignity and grace of God,” said one of the doctors.
Residents around Mseche and surrounding areas flocked to the clinic. Some travelled long distances just to receive care from specialists.
