Ministry to Host National Artisanal Small Scale Mining Symposium

The Ministry of Mining says preparations in readiness for the country’s first ever National Artisan Small Scale Mining Symposium (NASSMS) set for this month have been concluded.

The symposium which will be held at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe from the 14-16 July, 2025, will be held under the theme “Revolutionising Malawi’s Economy through Mineral-Driven Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship for Growth”.

Mining Minister Kenneth Zikhale-Ng’oma has indicated that the symposium will among others provide an opportunity for investors and local mining enthusiasts to meet and share notes on how they can work together towards uplifting the country’s mining sector.

“It’s a symposium that we believe will provide a good platform for stakeholders to discuss appropriate methodologies that can help to strengthen the country’s mining sector which is relatively underdeveloped,” he said.

Zikhale-Ng’oma said through the function, an intensive clarification on Malawi’s mining data will be revealed to give a chance to investors for investment.

“As the theme suggests, we are expecting a change or an economic revolution that will be triggered by innovative ideas that delegates at the symposium will share,” said Ng’oma.

At the event, the minister also revealed that the ministry will reveal how it intends to incorporate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into mining, saying use of AI has a lot of advantages.

“Few days ago, I together with my colleagues from the ministry attended a high-level meeting in United Arab Emirates where we leant of the need to adopt AI which flushes out bogus investors and attracts devoted ones,” the minister added.

President Lazarus Chakwera is expected to preside over the opening of the symposium.

According to the ministry, several local and international investors have already confirmed their participation at the event.
