Central Region Poetry Association will hold a festival on 15 October, Mother’s Day at Nalikule College of Education in Lilongwe.
Under the theme “Poetry is Lit! Ulakatuli Uvale Ulemu!”, the festival promises a vibrant celebration of spoken word, music, comedy and the creative arts to honour mothers.
“We believe poetry is not just entertainment. It’s a tool for healing, reflection and societal transformation. “That’s why this year’s festival is deeply rooted in honouring our mothers, the bedrock of our communities,” said Director of Publicity for the Poetry Association of Malawi, Enea Kachigamba.
The festival is expected to bring together legendary poets, musicians, comedians and artists from across Malawi alongside invited guests from the government, private sector, and civil society organisations.
It will be a platform where artistry meets appreciation, celebrating both the richness of Malawian poetry and the nurturing spirit of motherhood.
“Art speaks where words fail. Through every rhyme and rhythm, we want to say ‘thank you’ to our mothers,” added Kachigamba.
The event is also an important space for emerging voices, offering young and up-and-coming creatives a stage to express themselves, build networks and contribute to Malawi’s growing arts scene.
As part of preparations, the association is appealing for sponsorship and support from companies, organisations and individuals who value the arts and the message it carries.
Therefore, poetry fans and culture enthusiasts are encouraged to mark their calendars for an afternoon of inspiration, celebration, and unforgettable performances.
