Chikwawa Women Benefit from Entrepreneurship Skills Training

Sixty women from Chikwawa District have undergone special training in entrepreneurship by a local organisation called Community Focus (COFO).

Among others, the women have been imparted with knowledge in business management, financial literacy and entrepreneurship.

COFO executive director Joshua Malunga has indicated that participants at the raining have been equipped with skills to start, manage and grow small businesses in their communities.

According to Malunga, the initiative aims to strengthen the women’s economic resilience, especially in disaster-prone areas.

“These women have been drawn from areas that have been persistently hit by natural disasters in the last few years and we know that most of them are struggling financially and we are here to change that,” he said.

Malunga said it was the wish of COFO to see participants at the training become self-reliant.

“Whatever we are doing here is part of COFO’s broader commitment to promoting gender equality and sustainable livelihoods,” said Malunga.

COFO has since appealed to the women to use the knowledge gained at the training wisely.

“We believe this training will yield desirable results soon,” added Malunga.

Speaking on behalf of the participants, business woman Margret Mzengeza thanked COFO for the training, saying it will greatly help propel their businesses forward.

“Some of the things we have learnt here are very important in the modern business world and I am grateful,” said Mzengeza.
